I have enjoyed a diverse 20 year career in the legal profession encompassing roles in-house, in private practice and, ultimately, as the Managing Partner of a Dublin law firm. I understand lawyers and the legal landscape: I have been the trainee, the associate, the in-house team member and the partner. What I have learned, above all, is that the most important and valuable asset in all of the various elements of legal industry is its people. I work with lawyers of all levels and practices to help them navigate the complexities of a ‘life in law’ with an emphasis on practical solutions grounded in my extensive experience of the legal profession. My aim is always to be useful for my clients, so that they reach the goals they set for themselves.
In 2018 I moved out of a successful 20 year career in law, to re-train as an Executive Coach. I had very much enjoyed my 'first' career as a lawyer - I felt incredibly honoured to have worked with people from so many walks of life and to have advocated on behalf of people and businesses that needed their voices heard.
Having held senior positions in law I began to realise that the 'business of law' was far more about people and behaviours than it was about obscure points of legal precedent! I came to understand that, as a leader in business, it was vitally important to understand my style and approach to leadership, my values and my impact as a person on others. I found a passion and energy for delving deeper into the behaviours that influenced teams, culture and good working relationships. I discovered that what I really enjoyed was working alongside individuals, teams and organisations, using my experience and my training to support them and challenge them to understand 'what makes them tick' and what they really want to accomplish for themselves and for those around them.
I offer coaching, leadership development and group facilitation for people who want to learn more about themselves and how they can bring their best selves into their working environment. I continue to study the role of organisational dynamics and the importance of improving this for enduring and sustainable business success. I am a curious person by nature and it is a privilege to do the job I do where I get to really listen to people's stories and what's going on for them in work and in life. My aim is always to be useful for my clients, so that they reach the goals they set for themselves - it's all about them, not me!
